James may finish the Mandible Assembly Guide today. We will post it asap and then start on the tutorials for making it move. Not sure how it will come out as we aren't using a multi-axis DIY X-bee radio, just a PS2.

This is such an interesting process to follow!

A repeat question: Is there any indications yet as to what the price might be? Ballpark figures?

It's going to be along the lines of the AH3-R for the basic walker. The mandibles and tail will add some cost. If I had to ballpark it, it'd be in the $1500.00 area.

A-Pod update

James has completed the mandibles. Here are the assembly guides for the Body, Leg, and Tail. They are new so there might be errors. We are welcoming any help with finding problems. Please help! :D

Wow that was fast!

I just (last two minutes since I posted!) looked at parts of the assembly instructions, and noticed the new layout showing BOTH left and right assemblies (legs) side-to-side. Great way to enforce the left-right leg orientation!

Also liked the sensors on the grippers!

Probably more, but I'm not through looking.

Looking good.
The only think I saw is that the figure numbering is not consequent. Not all figures are numbered. In step 1 the figures are called 1-1 and 1. In step 2 the figures are called 2-1 and 2-2. Same thing in the tail manual. So if we're talking about those minor things it means that it looks good :)

I do have a question about step 7:
At step 6 the servo is attached to the right pitcher so I guess that the right pitcher is done. I assume that the servo in step 7 in the servo for the left pitcher? or? Why is the bolt removed in the next pictures?
Maybe it makes sense when holding the parts. If so, you can ignore this :P

PS: I liked how the manual for the legs is ordered. As we all know, it happens a lot that builders make 6 right legs instead of 3 left and 3 right. Having the build described for left and right by placing the images left and right on the paper makes it much clearer!

That's correct. The right pincer is finished at step 6. You then begin on the left one. It's a little bit more involved than the right one, so it must be done separately. I'll make this a little bit more clear in the guide.

The plastic insert in step 7 is an EXTREMELY tight fit. It's almost impossible to simply push it into place with your hands, but tightening it between a screw and a nut and it goes in easily.

I'll fix the step numbers...

Yeah!!! :D :D :D - In case anyone missed this posting earlier. It is great news to hear that the A-Pod is about to be released... I know it must be very close as there is now a link to the product up under the Hexapod kits: http://www.lynxmotion.com/c-154-a-pod.aspx

And a section in the assembly instructions for the Apod, including a tutorial and code that was adapted from the latest phoenix code for the PS2 with special controls to manipulate the additional things on the A-Pod!!! (http://www.lynxmotion.com/driver.aspx?Topic=assem04)

Again this is great news!
