Hello,

I'm looking in purchasing a ALD5 with RIOS Software. My questions are do I need a joystick to control the robot? My plan is to make the Arm go back and forth only to move a cup back and forth every minutes or so. I want it to loop, can this be taught through just programming it in basic stamp Editor?

You can control the arm directly from the computer - you don't need a joystick. RIOS can do what you want - not too difficult to code. If you want it to operate independently of the computer, you'll need a microcontroller (either in addition to the SSC-32 controller or the BotBoarduino).

So I will need to have a Laptop/computer plugged into the AL5D to loop? Without the laptop I would need get to get a another microprocess to retain a program to the AL5D after creating a program to be placed into the microcontroller?

Will a BS2 microcontroller work well with the AL5D?

If you purchase an arm which only has the SSC-32, you will need to send it position commands either from a computer or a microcontroller - even to loop. A BS2 would certainly work - just ensure your connections are correct. The BS2 would store the code to make it loop and send the positions to the SSC-32.
