I thought about just doing a silent update, but since there was a download...

I rethought some of my Analog multiplexer choices... I went from an ADG409 chip which was about $6.50 to an 4052 (same chip used in Arc32 I think), which for single chip costs $.59. Then decided to not make it an option I can turn on and off, so got rid of 2 pin jumper. Since I got rid of that Jumper, then Digital pins 22, 23 always control the MUX, and since A6, A7 are always connected to MUX, I dropped the two pin header that allowed me to get them. Then decided that 6 normal Analog and 6 multiplexed ones was probably sufficient, decided to not add jumper to Vin Voltage divider, but instead hard wire it to logical Multiplexed A7. A6x still is valid but without 3 pin header. So left a place in the board you could get to it... Not sure if all of this makes sense...
Here is a partial 3d look at it...

Will stay maybe play over weekend with design before I get a few fabricated.

I am thinking about dropping the 3 pin connections for D22 and D23, can probably then move caps on Analog ones, and maybe shrink the board back to 3.0" wide, where currently it is 3.2"

Thoughts?
Kurt

Another quick update. Have not updated the Gerbers and the like yet... But I did drop the 3 pin headers for D22,23, I move Sound to D21 and put it as a simple shunt to IO pin connection so can disable... Probably only need to do if you wish to hook up JTAG...

SO the board is now 3" long by 2.6" tall. I moved the mounting holes such that the are the same place as other Lynxmotion boards... Still need to put some identification labeling on the board, something like:
"Kurt's DIY Sanguino Board" Still playing.

Yah I know I said I was done , but...

I did a little more cleanup. Made some power buses a little bigger. Also for my own debugging, I added a JTAG connector. Note: Could remove, and maybe more the extra reset pin I have near the switch and move it down where the JTAG connector is and it would be simply just to wire up some jumpers instead. But for me and now, this makes it easy...

Also had some discussions about being able to program the board over the XBee, which I thought would be nice. But by default you would have to hit the reset switch to get it to program... There is some mods talked about up on LadyAda.net (http://www.ladyada.net/make/xbee/arduino.html) and also mentioned up on trossen, but how to make this automatic. I put in the extra support (which could be optional).

Here is an updated look:

Also included again is the complete set of documents... Probably later today will submit to build a few and see how it works.

Kurt

Edit: I have been playing around with importing 3d models of different components. I found you can get lots from 3dcontentcentral.com. I download as .stl files. Then you wings3d to convert to .wrl files. The scale, angle and offsets need to be adjusted, but starts to look more like a full board.

Wow it's almost like you read my mind. I agree with every change. This is a really cool board. 8)

Thanks Jim,

I put in an order this morning to fabricate 5 boards, so we will see how it goes! :D Only change from the previous posting, is I thought the Transistor was a little too close to speaker so moved it.

Have you posted the schematic somewhere? Just curious. Or maybe a block diagram so that the functionality could be quickly grasped.

I do like your "renderings".

Good luck with the board!

Thanks Alan,

Yes and no. That is the zip files I have posted contain all of the documents. But I have not put up the schematic as an easy to see by itself file (until now).

Thanks, I like the 3D rendering of Diptrace. It has taken me awhile to figure out where to be able import 3d components, but have found a lot of them now.

Thanks, should be fun.

Nice!
The main chip should be easy to solder though..

Yep, - Thought about designing one with all through holes, but I don't have that much of a problem soldering some of the SMT devices like 0805 resistors... So I went that way... Also if later if a group of them are made they can automate most of it...

I have now assembled one of them :) :( I found the MUX chip a real pain in the... to solder in. I probably fried it. I would be really surprised if it completely still works, but will test it out.

I have however so far verified that I can use the AVRISP to burn a bootloader and I can download programs using the AVRISP. I used the default program Blink and my LED blinks.

Other things I would change if I do a Ver 002 include: moving the jumper JRST as to make it easier to plug in AVRISP. Note: The plug is currently such that the ribbon cable points in toward the Atmega chip... Not sure if that is good or bad...

Also would probably make sure there are not vias or the like under the Crystal. I used tape under it to insulate it from the metal case. Could also simple order a crystal insulator.

Will continue to do some more testing for I build 2nd one.

Ahoy! There be parts on the board!

Looks pretty good.

Often, crystal circuits are to be in a "guard band", I don't know if that applies here. This is a ground trace that surrounds the xtal and its caps. Or at least a "keep out" area.

Ah, that MUX didn't look easy to solder by hand.

Always exciting when powering a new board for the first time, let us know if everything works.
